Staff spotlight: Meet Andrew Mansion
Getting to know the people behind your financial plan is important, which is why every other month, we’re using our staff spotlight feature to shine a light on the people working behind the scenes to support your financial journey.
So far, you’ve met our brilliant client relationship managers, Rachel Heeley and Dan Dimond, and Tara Wood, one of our financial advisers.
In this edition, we’d like to introduce Andrew Mansion, another one of our financial advisers, as he shares more about his work at Cheltenham IFA and what keeps him busy beyond the office.
Hi Andrew, tell us what your role is at Cheltenham IFA, how long you’ve been here, and what you do day to day.
Certainly! I’m a financial adviser, and I’ve been with the firm for around 12 years. It’s my job to assess my clients’ needs and objectives and provide recommendations on how to achieve them.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love talking to people and helping them achieve their financial goals.
What is a memorable experience or achievement in your career?
If I have to pinpoint a single achievement, it would have to be when I was awarded Top Rated Adviser status by VouchedFor, based on the reviews and feedback of my clients. Obviously, it’s nice to be told you’re doing a good job, but when it’s coming from your clients, that feedback is extra special.
How do you build relationships and trust with clients and understand their needs?
I listen to them. It sounds simple, but at the end of the day, the clients are the experts in their own needs. Once I have a thorough understanding of their unique circumstances and financial goals, I do what I genuinely think is best for them. In my experience, this tends to lead to the best outcomes.
For example, I recently helped some clients who were worried about whether they’d be able to retire. I listened to their concerns, assessed their financial situation, and took steps to get them back on track. By consolidating multiple workplace pensions and supporting them with some of the administrative hurdles they were faced with, we managed to set them up for a comfortable retirement and give them the financial peace of mind that they were looking for. Of course, the clients had done all the hard yards by saving – mine was the straightforward bit.
What do you think sets our firm apart in the sector?
I think that our genuine desire to put clients first is what sets our firm apart, and clients seem to feel it – you can see that just by looking at our reviews on Google or VouchedFor. It makes us all really proud of the service we provide.
What are your hopes for the future of our firm and the clients we serve?
The financial advice sector is changing all the time in response to developments in technology, legislation, tax, and regulation. However, I’m confident that as long as we remember that “what helps the client, helps us”, we’ll continue to thrive.
What would you tell someone who has never taken advice and is considering it?
Honestly? Just come and talk to us – we don’t bite!
Some quick-fire questions about you…
- What are your hobbies and interests outside of work? My life outside work mostly revolves around music – I write and perform in bands.
- What is your favourite book or movie and why? The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe, a non-fiction book all about the early US space programme. No film or TV adaptation has ever done it justice, because they don’t have Tom Wolfe narrating!
- What is the most interesting place you’ve visited? I love modern art, so the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice is pretty special.
- Can you share an inspiring quote that resonates with you? John Lennon: “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”
- How do you stay motivated and productive? I just really enjoy what I do!
- What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know? I was almost a famous child actor as an 8-year-old when I appeared in a BBC drama. Unfortunately, it was broadcast at the same time as the World Cup final, so nobody watched it, and that was the end of that!
Thanks, Andrew!
